Why Organic?
Our bags and the blindfolds are made with organic cotton in K.V. Kuppam, southern India, situated inland to the west of Madras. Organic cotton is cotton grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and insecticides. 50% of pesticides used in India are being used in the cotton fields. This causes damage to the environment, throws farmers into debt as pesticides and fertilisers are bought on credit and debts cannot be repaid if the harvest fails, contaminates water supplies and affects the health of farm labourers due to direct exposure to the chemicals.
Why Fair Trade?
Fair Trade is a partnership between producers and consumers which ensures producers receive good working conditions and fair prices. Our bags and bandanas are certified Fairtrade products.
Why a Recycled Notebook?
Our notebook is made from 100-per-cent post-consumer waste paper, printed with chlorine-free, biodegradable, vegetable based inks, and made at a mill that runs on landfill gas. It has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, an independent international non-profit that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests.
Why a Recycled Pencil?
Recycling is very cool! Check out our pencil....it used to be blue jeans! By choosing a recycled pencil for Naturebag, we aim to generate a positive interest in recycling.
Why Recycled Paper? - our booklet, leaf viewers and colourcards
All our paper products are made from 100% post consumer waste card or paper and printed with vegetable based inks. No new trees were cut down to make our booklet, leaf viewers and colourcards.
Why Hemp Twine?
Hemp is a natural resource which grows well without the help of pesticides and herbicides. It is a durable and biodegradable product.
Why Soy-based Crayons?
Unlike traditional petroleum-based crayons, these earth-friendly crayons are made from all natural pigments and soybean oil. Soy is a renewable resource and the crayons are biodegradable and certified non-toxic. Soy crayons are also easier to use: they glide smoother and don’t flake.
Why a Rubberwood Magnifier?
Our magnifying glass is made from rubberwood. The wood from the Pará Rubber tree is a strong, tightly grained wood that is ideal for toys. It is commonly cultivated in South America and Asia for its natural latex sap but when the trees have reached 30 years in age, sap production greatly diminishes. So, instead of these valuable trees going to waste, they are cut down for timber, and new rubber trees are planted to replenish the stock. Unlike mahogany or teak, rubberwood, is considered a sustainable source of wood.
