About Us

Naturebag was created by Sylvie de Sousa and Katharine Byers, two mums with one vision – to help children and their families reconnect with nature.

Great friends while both living in Vancouver and raising our young families, we started naturebag eco-activities to make it easy for busy families to go outside and have fun in nature without all the fuss and inevitable whining of unengaged children.  The feedback we got was inspiring, the response beyond our hopes and now, as life would have it, Sylvie has moved east with her family to the cosmopolitan city of Montreal and Katharine and her family have taken a few steps west to move to the eco hot-spot of Salt Spring Island, BC.

Now, we miss each other completely and make very good use of Skype and naturebag continues to go from strength to strength with its new east-west perspective.......

Between us, we have 10 years of elementary teaching experience, a Masters in Environmental Education, an International Business degree and four young children.  We recognise the need for an accessible tool to engage children with nature and the unmistakable fact that children benefit from having a significant adult in their life to guide them in their discovery of nature. So what better than a child sized, organic cotton shoulder bag (with adjustable strap) full of hands-on, curiosity led games and activities. 

It is important to us to consider our environmental impact with naturebag, so we choose to use recycled and organic materials in its creation.”

Our hope is that naturebag inspires you to take children outdoors, whether it be your back yard or a great forest or lake side.  Think of your fondest childhood memories...  Does nature play a role?  What kind of memories do we want to create for our children?
