Dr. Cheryl Charles, president of the Children and Nature Network talks about the growing movement
Do you think the choir (of people who see the importance of children spending time outdoors) is growing?
Katharine (with her ever so charming British accent!) had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Cheryl Charles, innovator, educator, author and organizational executive on the fact that more and more people are realizing the importance and benefits of children spending time outdoors. More people are 'getting it' and making time for outdoor play.
Here is a transcript of the above video:
Q. It's ok to preach to the choir, as long as the choir is growing... How's the choir growing these days?
A. That's a great question. The choir we are talking about at this point in time is the choir of people interested in building a movement of re-connecting children with the natural world. And that's so important because of the changes that have occurred in the last thirty years; really escalated in the last ten years. So when you build a social movement, when you have people kind of listening to their hearts and common sense, it tends to be the case that the few people who resonate with the message will sort of hear it, and that would be the group, that people would say, would be the choir. Having said that, the more and more and more people we get in the choir will be the way that we can create this change that will come from (again) people's hearts and common sense to make the living circumstances, the life opportunities for children, much more in balance again, for their own health and well being.
So the choir is growing to answer your question.
